ANANTAPUR: The State deputy secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), K. Narayana, has criticised the Government's proposal to conduct indirect polls to civic chief posts. It will help only individuals and not people. Talking to newspersons here on Saturday, he said such a system would lead to all sorts of irregularities in the election of councillors and corporators as well. Instead of concentrating on development of the civic body, the indirectly elected chairpersons, who might spend huge amounts in keeping their flock together, would expend their energy on serving the interests of councillors, Dr. Narayana felt.
