Noisy scenes at ZP meet

TDP members decry `discrimination' in sanction of works

  • Sanctioned works stopped midway, TDP allegation
  • Rythu Chaitanya Yatra: Collector admits lapse
  • Concern over holding of seed-raising farmers responsible for failure

ANANTAPUR: The general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad witnessed noisy scenes over the alleged discrimination in sanction and implementation of works in mandal parishads and zilla parishad territorial constituencies being represented by the Telugu Desam Party.

Seeking justice from the Agriculture Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy, the ZPTC members and MPPs of the TDP led by the ZP Vice-Chairperson, C. Obi Reddy, rose to their feet and alleged that they were not being sanctioned SGRY and RRM works for the last one year. But, sufficient works were being given to their Congress counterparts.

Even the sanctioned works were stopped midway in seven mandals led by the TDP, Mr. Obi Reddy said.

The Minister refused to give any assurance to the TDP members and instead directed the officials to take up suitable works and left the meeting on the pretext that he was scheduled to participate in Praja Patham.

Earlier, several ZPTC members and MPPs of both the Congress and the TDP complained that they were not being informed about the Rythu Chaitanya Yatra.

The TDP legislator from Uravakonda, P. Keshav, observed that it had become a practice for officials to ignore the elected representatives.

Admitting the lapse at some places, the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, said participation of elected representatives in the yatra was not compulsory. \

She, however, assured them that the elected representatives right from sarpanches would be informed about the itinerary.

The ZPTC members also expressed concern over holding farmers, who would raise seed as part of seed development village scheme, responsible for the failure of their produce, after it was supplied to other farmers later.

The Collector also made it clear that the farmers whose pattadar passbooks were not stamped by the Revenue Department as "found valid'' by May 31 would not be eligible for rescheduling, renewal or new crop loans.

The ZP Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, the Chief Executive Officer, T. Sripathi Rao, the Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, and the Anantapur MLA, B. Narayana Reddy, were present.
