Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM:
In a shocking incident, four policemen were arrested after their suspension for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of funds belonging to the Visakha City Police Employees' Cooperative Society Limited.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that K. Simhachalam, T.V. Ramana, M. Ratna Rao and V. Yerraji Rao, respectively the president, secretary, vice-president and treasurer of the society, had misappropriated funds to the tune of at least Rs. 40 lakhs over a period of time.
All of them -- employed as constables in the city -- were arrested on Saturday after prima facie evidence on their involvement in the scam, the Commissioner of Police, V.S.K. Kaumudi, told The Hindu .
Enquiries revealed that one of the accused was holding a key post in the housing building society.
A preliminary report on the fraud has also been submitted to the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
