HYDERABAD: Taking exception to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's comments that the TDP would not have candidates for the next Assembly elections, the party on Saturday challenged him to immediately hold municipal elections on party basis. The TDP Parliamentary Party leader, K.Yerran Naidu, and R. Chandrasekhara Rao, MP, told presspersons that the ruling party was thinking of holding indirect elections to municipalities as it was scared of defeat. The leaders charged the Government with failing to provide remunerative prices to farmers, end their sucide and arrest large-scale migration from villages. They said Dr. Reddy was turning a "deaf ear" to people's problems. The Government had not completed a single project in the past one year, they said, adding illusions on its functioning entertained by different sections of people were removed.
Futile exercise
They alleged that no Minister or MLA was participating in the Praja Patham. The Rajiv Nagara Baata and Rajiv Palle Baata had turned into a "farce." Referring to the Rythu Chaitanya Yatra, they claimed Dr. Reddy was in need of enlightenment and not farmers. At a separate press conference, G. Sukhender Reddy, M.V. Mysoora Reddy and M. Narsimlu accused the Government of adopting "vindictive" attitude against liquor shops after the High Court set aside the excise policy. While charging that licences were being cancelled following raids, they urged the Government to stop harassment.
