HYDERABAD: The CPI State secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, has said "personal lobbying'' will take the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, nowhere near his goal of securing statehood for Telangana. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy reminded Mr. Rao that he was no spokesman for the CPI for making a comment that the party had passed a resolution in favour of Telangana at its recent national conference at Chandigarh. He clarified that no such resolution was adopted and that there was indeed a discussion on the issue. He parried a question about the CPI's likely response if and when a bill on statehood for Telangana is introduced in Parliament. Mr. Reddy asked the Central Government to drop the idea of corporatising mints and presses as they were not commercial establishments. They performed sovereign functions of a Government which could not be transferred to corporates. He also demanded withdrawal of a tender notice issued for procurement of blank bimetallic coins of Rs. 10 denomination. There were already millions of new coins lying in storage vaults of mints. The raw material was worth thousands of crores of rupees. The CPI leader felt it was not proper for the Government to scrap the Central Government Health Scheme on grounds of corruption. Steps had to be taken against corporate hospitals for referring inflated bills to the Government for reimbursement. The facility should also be extended to private hospitals.
