Office-bearers elected

HYDERABAD: The general body of the Telangana Class-IV Employees' Association met on Friday and elected office-bearers for 2005-2007.

R. Dayakaran was elected president of the association. The other office-bearers were: G.N. Dasarat and G. Yelliah, vice-presidents, M. Shankaraiah, secretary, J. Venkat Rao and P. Shankar Raju, joint secretaries, T. Narsimha and Babu Rao, organising secretaries, and G. Sudhakar, treasurer. Eight members were nominated to the executive committee. - Staff Reporter

School's distinction

KARIMNAGAR: The Paramita high school students of Karimnagar have secured highest marks in the SSC examination among the English medium schools in the district. R. Amukthamalyada has secured 561 marks, G. Prabhu (555), R. Rajesh and J. Dikshit Rao 554 marks each. Out of 226 students appeared for the examination, 84 students secured above 500 mark. - Staff Reporter

Timber seized

ADILABAD: Forest officials raided Sirikonda between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and seized 20 pieces of lumber meant for illegal transport to Adilabad . The Ichoda Forest Range Officer, Srinivas Rao, led the raid party. - Staff Reporter

CPI(M) to launch stir from May 20

KURNOOL: The CPI (M) district secretary, T. Shadrak, has said the party would launch an agitation from May 20 to June 5 demanding house sites for poor and ration cards.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Shadrak said the party district committee, which met on the last two-days, had chalked out the plan. - Staff Reporter

HIV positive persons form society

TIRUPATI: The movement against stigmatisation of HIV-infected received a shot in the arm with persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) from across the district came together to form a society called `Network of Chittoor Positive People (NCP+).'

Even elections were conducted by the State body, Telugu Network of Positive People (TNP+), and 20 `positive persons' contested.- Staff Reporter

Kurnool wards delimitation taken up

KURNOOL: The Municipal Corporation authorities have started work on reorganisation of wards in the city. The Kurnool city is likely to have 50 wards because of its population below four lakhs. As per the 2001 census, the population was 3,42,973. - Staff Reporter

Work Inspector arrested by ACB

HYDERABAD : A Work Inspector of Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation, D. Narayana Swamy, working in Kadiri of Anantapur district, was arrested on Saturday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials for allegedly accepting Rs. 1,000 bribe from a person. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, greeted labourers and workmen on Saturday on the eve of May Day.

In a message, he assured them of improving the working conditions as also the welfare for their all-round development.

Dr. Reddy called for efforts by both workmen and managements in a mutually beneficial and peaceful atmosphere to increase productivity. In this regard, he desired that the State should be the role model. He urged workmen and labour to rededicate themselves to increase the national productivity. - Staff Reporter

`Seva puraskar' for

telegraph office

ELURU: The Telegraph office at Bhimavaram, run by the West Godavari Telecom District, has been chosen for `Utkushta Tar Seva Puraskar' for 2005 at the national level for its best performance in providing facilities to customers, according to the Telecom District General Manager, L. Ananthram.

He told reporters here that the award would be presented to the telegraph office by the Union Minister for Telecommunications at a function in Delhi on May 17, the World Telecom Day. - Staff Reporter

BC panel's

public hearing

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Commission for Backward Classes will conduct public hearing in Karimanagar and Nizamabad districts on May 11 and 12 on inclusion of Muslims in the BC list. Its visit to the districts was postponed earlier. The hearings will be conducted at the Zilla Parishad meeting halls from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the commission here on Saturday. D. Subramanyam, Chairman, V. Krishna Mohan Rao, N. Lakshminarayana Mudiraj, A. Subba Rao and A.R. Sukumar, member-secretary, attended the meeting. - Staff Reporter

Summer vacation

for tribunal

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal will be closed for a month from May 2 for summer vacation.

The vacation benches, sitting every Wednesday (May 4,11,18,25 and June 1), will take up only urgent applications. Notice of the applications should be given to the vacation officer on the preceding working day of the sitting of the vacation benches.

According to a press release, K.K. Bangar, N.K. Narasimha Rao, members (administration) and Sudhender Kulkarni and K. Satyanarayana Rao (judicial) will constitute the vacation benches. - Staff Reporter

Farm worker

electrocuted

Kakinada: A farm worker, Illa Nagababu (24), was electrocuted when he came into contact with a snapped live wire at his house in Ramachandrapuram on Saturday. His brother, Illa Annavaram, who went to his rescue also suffered shock.

In another case, Anupoju Radha (20), mother of three-year-old girl, allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at her home in Sattemma Colony of Peddapuram on Saturday.

CIEFL to introduce

new courses

VIJAYAWADA: The CIEFL will shortly introduce courses in Chinese and communication skills in English. The CIEFL Vice-Chancellor, V. Ganeshan, talking to newspersons here on Saturday, said that CIEFL was offering courses in English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese and would soon conduct courses in Chinese also.
