CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Finance Minister, Birender Singh, on Saturday announced an increase in the rate of Dearness Allowance (DA) payable to the State Government employees from the existing 14 per cent to 17 per cent of the pay effective from January 1 this year. The arrears on account of the enhancement made in the DA from January 1 to April 30 would be credited to the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of the employees. However, the DA would be paid in cash from May 1, he added. Mr.Singh said that the grant of DA would put a liability of Rs.113.54 crores on the state exchequer during the current financial year. Mr.Singh also announced that the amount of loan admissible to the State Government employees for the marriage of daughter and sister would be increased up to Rs.1 lakh and for that of son, it would be enhanced up to Rs.60,000. He claimed that it was for the first time after 1999 that the amount of loan for the marriage of daughter, sister and son was being enhanced. This loan would also be admissible to Class II officers of the State Government and would be recoverable in 100 monthly instalments.
