NSS-SNDP unity: Karunakaran told to declare stand

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: The SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellapally Natesan, has urged the senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran to declare his stand on Nair-Ezhava unity being forged in the State.

Presiding over a public meeting held here this evening as part of Guruvarsham 150, Mr. Natesan said Mr. Karunakaran should declare his views on the issue during the `I' group convention in Thrissur on May 1.

He said Mr. Karunakaran had wasted no opportunity to criticise SNDP-NSS unity. The State needed a new democratic process in which the Left parties and the Congress were united. "Only this can check minorities from hijacking the State.''

Minorities

He alleged that appeasement of minorities was the order of the day. "You cannot even mention the word, Malappuram, these days,'' he said.

Mr. Natesan said the Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan, was the only one to respond positively to statistics furnished by the NSS general secretary, P.K. Narayana Panicker, regarding the raw deal meted out to majority communities in the education sector. "The Congress leader A. K. Antony too was attacked for telling the truth that minorities were `hijacking the State.' The Nair-Ezhava unity will definitely have an impact on the next elections in the State,'' Mr. Natesan said.
