KOLLAM: The Minister for Cooperation, M.V. Raghavan, presented the P.N. Panicker Award for Social Service to the businessman Gokulam Gopalan at a function here on Saturday. The award has been instituted by the P.N. Panicker Samskarika Samithy and the youth wing of the Kerala Association for Non-Formal Education and Development (KANFED). The award presentation function was inaugurated by the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, and presided over by the Samithy president, Pandalam C. Sunil. The Rajya Sabha member N.K. Premachandran, the KANFED secretary, Thengamam Balakrishnan, the chairman of the Kerala Forest Development Corporation, M. Manoharan Pillai, the Port Kollam parish priest, James Puthenpura, and the Kollam SNDP Union president, Mohan Shankar, among others, addressed the function. In his presidential address, Mr. Sunil said that Mr. Gopalan was selected for the award because of his social service in the field of medical education.
