KOLLAM: The People's Inquiry Council has called for a fresh probe by an outside agency into the Kottiyam and Kundara sex rackets. At a press conference here on Saturday, the chairperson of the council, P. Geetha, and member P.A. Pouran, said the demand was being made on the basis of information gathered by the council after a probe into the cases. The council said the findings of the probe and a plea for an inquiry into the cases by an outside agency will be presented to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy. A report of the findings of the council states that while there were allegations that the victim in the Kottiyam sex racket case, Shiney, had been taken to the Pangode Cantonment and had been sexually abused by some military personnel, the Kollam police had not conducted any investigation in this connection. The report alleged that the High Court verdict on the Suryanelli sex racket case had influenced the media to come out with unbecoming allegations against Shiney, who was allegedly murdered by her brother, Shaiju. The police had failed to investigate whether Shaiju had committed the offence under someone's influence.
