NEW DELHI: The South Delhi police claim to have solved over 30 cases of motor vehicle theft following the arrest of Ahsan Ahmad, who is said to have been involved in the crime for the past eight months. The police said that on April 27, a motorcycle belonging to Bhola, a resident of Madangir, parked near Gate No. 8 of Lala Ram Swaroop T.B. Hospital, was stolen. A search was launched and the motorcycle was recovered from a nearby workshop where it had been brought for a minor repair and change of number plate. Subsequently, the person who had brought the motorcycle was caught and on being interrogated, he disclosed his identity as Ahsan Ahmad, a resident of Budh Vihar, Badarpur. The accused allegedly confessed to his involvement in about 30 other cases of auto-theft. He disclosed that initially he was in the trade of selling TV sets to villagers at his native place in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh and had started driving a private bus on Route 473 between Badarpur border and Anand Vihar terminal. Then about eight months ago he took to stealing motorcycles and selling them to innocent villagers at throwaway prices. He also opened a shop in the name of ISG Motors near Baghra bus depot in Muzaffarnagar from where he used to dispose of the motorcycles. Emboldened by success in his new venture, he started preparing sale letter on behalf of the registered owners of stolen motorcycles by forging the signatures.
