NEW DELHI: : A Delhi court on Saturday sentenced a man to simple life imprisonment for murdering his 35-year-old wife following a quarrel over some trivial matters at his Panchkuyian Road residence in Central Delhi in March 2003. Holding Ramesh Kumar guilty of the offence under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Additional Sessions Judge, D.S. Panwanria, also imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on the convict. The prosecution's allegations against Ramesh Kumar were that he had poured kerosene on his wife, Sunita, and set her on fire on March 19, 2003. Though, Ramesh had later rushed her to Lady Hardinge Hospital but she succumbed to her injuries on March 27, the prosecution stated.The prosecution further said that the couple used to fight frequently over trifle matters as the convict was facing financial difficulties. They were married in 1987 and had a baby after 13 years, the prosecution stated, adding that at the time of the marriage, the convict was in a private job and his father-in-laws used to assist him financially.The convict used to take liquor and his behaviour towards his wife was not good as he used to beat her over trivial matters, the prosecution further stated.Sentencing Ramesh Kumar, Mr. Panwanria said: "The prosecution has proved the case beyond all reasonable doubts.''
