L-G directive to DDA on Master Plan

Gaurav Vivek Bhatnagar

Screening of public suggestions simplified

NEW DELHI: The Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, B.L. Joshi, has directed the Delhi Development Authority not to pile up objections and suggestions that are being received about the Master Plan and to take up the work of addressing them simultaneously with the help of a committee.

The directions from the Lieutenant-Governor - which came at a meeting with senior DDA officials - assume significance as the Authority has started the process of eliciting views of the public on the provisions of the draft Master Plan-2021 by uploading the plan on its website - www.ddadelhi.com - and initiating the process for public information.

The draft Master Plan had been presented by DDA for discussion before its members and the Advisory Council at a meeting chaired by the Lieutenant-Governor at Raj Nivas on January 10 and had later been notified on March 15.

After its presentation in January, the draft had been sent to the Union Government with some suggestions made by the Delhi Government and the members. Thereafter, as per Section 11of the Delhi Development Act, the draft was notified. And after the 90-day period for receiving objections and suggestions expires, as per the original plan a Board of Enquiry and Hearing, headed by the Vice-Chairman of DDA, was to consider all the views and suggestions. But now with Mr Joshi calling for simultaneous screening, this process would be speeded up.

Modifications

Already, DDA has received a large number of suggestions and objections. The process has been simplified this time as any person having any suggestion with respect to the proposed modifications can now send the same in writing to the Principal Commissioner-cum-Secretary at Delhi Development Authority, Vikas Sadan, INA, New Delhi-110023. The suggestions would be accepted by DDA for a period of 90 days from April 8, the day the public notice of notification of the draft Master Plan for Delhi 2021 was issued.

The Authority has called upon those making suggestion to give their name, full address, contact telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address. The suggestions can also be made through the feedback e-mail provided for in the website.

With a large number of people responding to the public notice, it is quite evident that the Capital's residents want a proper say in the development of their city as the vision document seeks treatment of Delhi and surrounding townships as a continuum and desires involvement of private participation in development.
