New initiative to promote Delhi by night

Staff Reporter

Air-conditioned coaches have been deployed for tourists

NEW DELHI: : In an effort to recreate and revive the Mughal era, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) has launched a new local tourism circuit for domestic as well international tourists visiting the Capital. Known as "Dilli Ki Shaam'', it is an attempt to stitch together a delightful evening that begins from Dilli Haat and after covering some important landmarks like India Gate and Red Fort returns to Dilli Haat or the Night Bazaar at Ashok Hotel.

The programme has already evoked a positive response from tourists and plans are afoot to start another circuit on the same lines. The concept of Delhi by evening and night has been introduced to explore the cultural and heritage aspects of the city at night.

According to DTTDC Managing Director, Ramesh Negi, the idea is to promote something that is unique and new to those who come visiting the city. The DTTDC has deployed air-conditioned coaches and tourists are picked up from various destinations, including Dilli Haat, Hotel Ashok, Hotel Samrat, and Central Reservation Office at Connaught Place.

After covering India Gate, the tourists are taken to Red Fort for the delightful light-and-sound programme. Back at India Gate, they are given the option of either spending the stop time of around 20 minutes and then boarding the bus again or returning to their hotel on their own.

This way the tourists are not only given an insight into the rich heritage of the Capital but also get an opportunity to shop during the night.
