NEW DELHI: : Coming out strongly against the deteriorating power situation in the city, the Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, on Saturday termed as arbitrary and illogical the hike effected by the private distribution company BSES on single-point electricity connections in unauthorised colonies and slum clusters and demanded its immediate withdrawal. He also asked the Delhi Government to file a complaint against the private discom for flouting norms laid down by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). Stating that the power situation had gone from bad to worse, Mr. Kumar in a statement said he had protested to the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and the BSES CEO, Rakesh Aggarwal, against the hike and said such steps would only result in spoiling the image of the party and the elected representatives. Seeking intervention of the Delhi Government, Mr. Kumar said the Government had adequate powers under the Delhi Electricity Reforms Act 2002 to issue policy directions to DERC and the private discoms. The Government should exercise this right without any further delay, he said.
