VISAKHAPATNAM: The City Police would take up welfare activities for autorickshaw drivers, the Commissioner of Police, V.S.K. Kaumudi, said.

"The police would like to see a transformation in autorickshaw drivers, and the fines and other disciplinary actions against them are not for subjecting them to undue pressure. They, too, have a part in the development of the city and its reputation. They could gain a good name with the visitors by good behaviour," he told a meeting of autorickshaw drivers organised by the City Traffic Police.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, K. Lakshmi Reddy, wanted auto drivers to be people-friendly.
