TIRUCHI: The Consumer Protection Council urged the Corporation to take steps for removal of encroachments in the city as per the directive of the High Court. A resolution adopted t at the annual general body meeting here said that the council would approach the High Court for remedy, if no action was taken in this connection. Another resolution called upon the Corporation to provide pavements on all main roads, adjoining roads and maintain the existing pavements as well. Expressing concern over the chaotic traffic system, the Council sought the City Police and the Transport authorities to convene a meeting of the bus operators, road users and service bodies to solve the issue. The president of the Council, S. Sundaresan presided. The special event of the year under review was the creation of Special cell called "Ad-Watch" to monitor misleading and deceptive advertisements in mass media and take appropriate action. A special team coordinators would be running the cell, he said. In the area of complaints handling, the council was active and effected reversal in several cases in banks which levied unfair charges. The Council stopped a few credit card agencies also from making false claims and indulging in extortion, Mr. Pushpavanam added.
