COIMBATORE: A kalassi worker died and two others were admitted to the hospital after they consumed spirit in Coimbatore late on Saturday night. According to police, Sikkuraj (45) died while Amalanathan (35) and Selvam (33) were admitted to the hospital after consuming spirit reportedly smuggled out of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. It is learnt that Anthony, a sweeper working in a shop opposite the medical college hospital, smuggled the spirit from the hospital with the connivance of the hospital staff. On Saturday he is said to have supplied half a litre of spirit to the trio who chose to mix it with water and soda. They consumed it sitting near a corporation park in Sungam in Coimbatore city and complained of uneasiness and irritation. While Amalanathan and Selvam were rushed to the hospital Sikkuraj died in his house. The city police secured Anthony and are continuing the hunt for a ward boy of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, who was reportedly behind smuggling. Police have registered a case.
