Nigerian among three arrested with heroin

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a Nigerian national, have been arrested in two separate cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Two kg of heroin and 25 gm of high-grade cocaine have been recovered from them.

In the first case, a Kashmiri resident, Imtiaz Ahmed Peer alias Raja was indulging in the sale of cocaine and a trap was laid by the police at a petrol pump in Nizamuddin. He was nabbed when a Nigerian citizen -- Emmanuel Chikezie -- approached him and passed on a packet to him containing cocaine.

In the second case, a trap was laid by the police at ISBT on Saturday following a tip-off that a Bareilly resident was coming with a big consignment of heroin. At around 8 a.m., the accused Allauddin was spotted. The police recovered 2 kg of heroin worth Rs. 2 crores in the international market from him.

An agriculturist who owns 40 bighas of land, Alauddin is also trained in manufacturer of heroin and is convicted for life in a murder case. He is currently on bail and has filed an appeal in the High Court.

Drug peddlers held

NEW DELHI: Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested at Shahadra in North-East Delhi on Friday following recovery of 400 gm of heroin from them, according to the police.

Identified as Yogesh Kumar Verma alias Bobby (25), Vinay Rajput (22) and Umesh Kumar Rajput (26), the three were arrested by a police patrol party on GT Road.

The three were moving under suspicious circumstances on GT road. On noticing the police, the three started walking towards the Kanti Nagar Chowk. Alerted by their movement, the police party chased and overpowered them. A polythene bag containing 400 gm of heroin was recovered from them.

Old woman assaulted

NEW DELHI: An 80-year-old woman was criminally assaulted by a young man at Sarojini Nagar in South Delhi on Thursday night. The victim was sleeping on the pavement, when Lalu (22) criminally assaulted her after gagging her.

According to the police, Lalu tried to run away when he saw a PCR van. The police got suspicions and arrested him. The woman was medically examined and the report confirmed the assault.

Shanties gutted

New Delhi: At least 30 shanties were gutted in a fire in a slum cluster in East Delhi in the wee hours on Saturday, fire brigade sources said.

Though no person was injured in the blaze near Shastri Park which started around 2.50 a.m., several heads of livestock were lost, they said.

The blaze was brought under control in about half-an-hour by eight fire tenders, the sources said, adding its cause was yet to be ascertained.

Brothers get lifer

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for killing a man over a monetary dispute about four years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Asha Menon also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Virender alias Bobby and Narender Pal alias Raja for murdering one Raju and injuring his brother Vikky on March 20, 2001.

Police said the incident occurred when Bobby went to the shop of Raju in Anand Parvat area to collect Rs 10,000 allegedly owed by him. Bobby stabbed Raju while Raja caught hold of him.
