HYDERABAD: Entry into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is the dream of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) toppers this year while a few want to be doctors. V. Ganesh Shanker, the topper this year who secured 586 marks, says, "IIT is the next destination." A student of Bhashyam School in Kukatpally, Ganesh is surprised that he has topped the exams. "I expected around 580 marks but not the first position." A native of Srikakulam district, he studied in various parts of the State before joining the present school in 9th class. The topper has been a brilliant student all through and stood sixth in the VII class examination in his district scoring 558 marks. M. Deepika, also of the same school, scored the second highest marks in the SSC. Daughter of an engineer, Deepika wants to be a doctor despite scoring 100 marks in Mathematics, as it has been a childhood dream.
100 per cent success
Two students of Brilliant Grammar School, Dilsukhnagar -- S. Aplava and P. Archana -- scored 576 and 574 marks respectively to take the 5th and 7th places. Narayana Reddy, Correspondent of the school, said 389 of their students got marks above 500. Mounika and Ram Prasad of Bhashyam School got 575 and 572 marks respectively to figure in top 10. The Gowtham Model Schools claimed that their students recorded 100 per cent success with 754 students clearing the examination in first class out of the total 848 who appeared. Usha of the institutions said Sumaswi of the school figured in the top 10 scoring 570 marks. Students of Vignan schools in the State achieved 99 per cent pass percentage, according to the group Chairman, Lavu Rattaiah. K. Subhash of Ravindra Bharathi School emerged as one of the top rankers in the examination by securing 575 marks. Hyderabad district registered better performance in this year's examination. The district, which had been relegated to the last position (23) in the State during the last three years, climbed up to 19th place with 65.86 pass percentage. The Collector, Arvind Kumar, expressed his satisfaction and thanked teachers and headmasters for their cooperation. Of 51,308 students who appeared from the district, 24,460 were boys and 26,848 were girls and their pass percentage was 63.77 and 67.77 respectively.
