THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police are searching for two Hindi speaking youth in connection with the burglary at a leading electronic shop in the city on April 21 night. The police had prepared the sketches of the suspects after questioning the owner of a hardware shop in Chalai from where the implements for the burglary were purchased. The implements included eight hacksaw blades, a pair of pliers and an iron rod cutter. The tools were found wrapped in the city edition of a newspaper at the scene of the crime. As many as 233 mobile telephones and nine digital cameras valued at Rs. 19 lakhs were stolen from the shop. The police have collected the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the stolen telephones. The numbers have been given to leading cell phone service providers in the country to find out if anyone is using the stolen phones. The Circle Inspector, Pettah, K. V. Suresh Kumar, said the burglars had gained entry into the shop by sawing of the iron bars of a window located on the side of the building located on the M.G. Road at Pulimoodu. He said similar thefts had been reported from some leading electronic shops in Kochi this year. A police team is in Chennai in Tamil Nadu to collect the pictures of professional burglars who specialise in the theft and disposal of costly electronic items. The police are pursuing information that two Hindi speaking youth bearing resemblance to the suspects were spotted in Nedumudi in Alappuzha district. The police said the burglary was one of the biggest criminal operations in the city in recent times. The police also verified the stock register at the electronics show room and found that the stolen goods had been insured earlier. Traders in electronic goods have been asked to alert the police in the event somebody tries to sell bulk number of mobile telephones or digital cameras.
