BANGALORE: The undergraduate professional college admission process will formally start on Sunday with 20,870 students taking the Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). Held at 38 centres across the State, the UGET will decide who will take the management quota seats in the professional colleges attached to the consortium. Seventy-two per cent of the applicants will take the test from the 22 centres spread across Bangalore. Among the centres are M.S. Ramaiah medical, engineering, dental and arts and science colleges, M.E.S. College, M.E.S. Kishore Kendra, N.M.K.R.V. College for Women, R.V. Dental College, V.V. Puram College, Ambedkar Medical College, Adarsh College and Mount Carmel College. The 16 centres outside Bangalore are in 11 towns. They include three centres in Mangalore, two each in Belgaum and Gulbarga and one centre each in Bagalkot, Bellary, Bijapur, Davangere, Dharwad, Mysore, Shimoga and Udupi. Of the students, 56 per cent are from outside the State and 65 per cent boys. Fifty-two faculty members will be involved in the examination work and 20 others will act as observers. Besides, there will be surprise visits by squads. "We have also arranged a private security agency to take care of the security of the centres. The police will also assist us," COMEDK executive secretary, S. Kumar, told The Hindu.
