CUDDALORE: The Tamil Nadu State Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank Employees' Association has pointed out many "anomalies" in the recent government order on wage revision and other allowances given to the employees. The district-level office-bearers of the association who met here on Saturday under the presidentship of M. Govindarajan said that since the wage agreement (valid from July 1, 1997 to June 30, 2002) had lapsed long ago, it could not be revived as per the Industrial Disputes Act. With the implementation of the order, many employees would get lesser earnings by Rs.500 to Rs. 8,000. Whereas, another order directed the cooperative officials to continue with the disbursement of the same salary as of now. The association pointed out that there was, hence, a contradiction between these two orders. As per the new dispensation, the cooperative bank employees would not be eligible to get the dearness allowance on a par with their counterparts in government services, as they would get 8 per cent lesser DA than the latter. It had also taken away the over time wage concept and reduced the house rent allowance and medical allowance. There was no provision for according selection grade and special grade status to the employees.
Retirement benefits
The latest order had also curtailed the superannuation benefit to the tune of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 2.50 lakh. The association blamed the Special Officers for the delay in the revival of the pay package. The association alleged that the officials were coercing the employees to affix their signatures to the form, approving the salary structure. This had vitiated the atmosphere and hindered the processing of farm loans, jewellery loans and loans to the Self-Help Groups.
Services terminated
It further stated that by misusing the power conferred on them by Section 149 of the Cooperative Societies Act, the cooperative officials were terminating the services of those who were appointed at times of exigencies by citing their age. So to voice their protest against the arbitrary actions of the Special Officers and cooperative officials, the association had decided to launch an agitation on May 9 in front of the Cuddalore Deputy Registrar's office and on May 10 in front of the Deputy Registrar's office at Vriddhachalam.
