`Rescue workers'
Our Chitradurga Staff Correspondent reports: G.H. Thippa Reddy, Chitradurga MLA, has urged the State Government to come to the rescue of labourers in the unorganised sector. Speaking at a function to mark May Day here on Sunday, he favoured legislation to protect the interests of unorganised workers. He noted that last month, three construction labourers died in Chitradurga town and their families did not get any help from the Government. Work conditions should be improved and the services of anganwadi workers, porters and "Bisiyuta" workers should be regularised, he said. Mr. Reddy promised to take steps to build 300 houses at a cost of Rs. 5 crores for women labourers in the Chitradurga APMC. H.K. Ramachandrappa, noted labour leader and joint secretary of the Communist Party of India State unit, condemned the "attitude" of the State Government towards the labour class. C.M. Venkataramu, labour leader, inaugurated "Comrade Pampapathy Bhawan" named after noted labour leader and former legislator Pampapathy. S.K. Basavarajan, administrator of Sri Murugha Mutt, spoke.
