HYDERABAD: The World Youth (under-21) volleyball championship to be held at the Port Trust Indoor Stadium in Vizag from August 6 to 14 will be sponsored by ONGC and will be known as the ONGC Cup. Addressing the press here on Sunday morning, N. Janardhana Reddy, former Chief Minister and chairman of the organising committee, said that the organisers were grateful to the various Union Ministries for coming forward in a big way to make the event a grand success. "We have shown the world our organisational capabilities in hosting the Asian championship a couple of years ago in Vizag. In fact, that was the reason why the FIVB, the international body, had allotted the World Championship also," said Mr. Reddy, who is the Lok Sabha MP fromVizag. Mr. Reddy also informed that Gas Authority of India Ltd has chipped in as co-sponsor promising Rs. 25 lakhs for the event and thanked the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Jaipal Reddy and Prasar Bharati CEO Sharma for assuring live telecast on Doordarshan. Konatala Ramakrishna, Minister for Commercial Taxes and executive chairman of the organising committee, informed that the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh had released Rs.67 lakhs as grant for the event and that a proposal for more support had been forwarded. .
