HYDERABAD: An awareness programme to educate farmers on the need to fix good quality capacitors to their agricultural pumpsets as part of the energy conservation measures has been taken up by the power utilities during the ongoing `Rythu Chaitanya Yatra.' The chairperson and managing director, AP Transco, Rachel Chatterjee, while interacting with farmers in Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts, said that fixing capacitors to 5 hp pumpsets would reduce transformer failures, motor burnouts and result in saving 10 to 15 per cent energy. The farmers expressed satisfaction over the supply of quality power during the just-concluded rabi season.
Plea to consumers
According to an Transco press release, the CMD appealed to agricultural consumers who are eligible for free power to fix the capacitors and frictionless foot valves to their pumpsets by the end of March next. Otherwise, they will have to pay 50 paise a unit or Rs.525 for each hp every year.
Panel constituted
Meanwhile, a high-level committee headed by senior IPS officer and joint managing director/ vigilance A.P.Power Utilities, M.Malakondiah, has been constituted to continuously monitor energy conservattion measures in the State. The release said that the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajsekahara Reddy, during the video conference held yesterday enquired about the power supply position during the rabi season. The collectors expressed satisfaction over the availability of power supply.
