ONGOLE: The Director-General of Police, Swaranjit Sen, has said the police are now combing the Nallamala forest and other areas to nab CPI (Maoist) activists indulging in illegal activities like carrying arms and resorting to violence. Mr. Swaranjit Sen arrived here on Sunday to visit the scene of the Claymore mine attack targeting the Prakasam district Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddah, on Wednesday. Speaking to the media, the DGP said the police were drawing up plans to make use of available force in a better way. Asked for his view on reimposing ban on the CPI (Maoist), the DGP said it was a policy matter to be decided by the Government. The police on its part would do everything to maintain law and order. Two persons arrested for allegedly acting as couriers of CPI (Maoist) State secretary, Ramakrishna, were produced in court at Macherla, he said. He expressed happiness that Mr. Laddah escaped unhurt in the blast in which three innocent persons had lost their lives. He asked the Maoists, human rights activists and intellectuals to think whether the act was justified or not. He complimented Mr. Laddah for unearthing arms dumps and checking illegal activities of the Maoists in a daring manner. He asked the Maoists to explain as to why they were targeting police officers who were only discharging their duty. Mr. Sen alleged that the Maoists are using women as human shields to save their own lives in encounters. Accompanied by the IG of Police, Krishna Raju, and Mr. Laddah, the DGP visited the blast site and conducted a pooja in the nearby Kamakshi temple. He also offered prayers at a church and a mosque.
