HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Sunday announced that the party would gear up all the Telugu Nadu Trade Union Council (TNTUC) units and ensure that candidates were fielded in every trade union elections in the State. He was addressing a gathering at NTR Trust Bhavan, the party headquarters. Enthused by the response from the party cadre, he said that it was only the TDP Government which was worker-friendly all through its tenure. Workers were able to approach the courts to redress their grievances. Even the work hours were streamlined and an insurance cover of Rs. 50,000 was extended to workers, he claimed.
Child labour
He said that the TNTUC would work hard towards eradicating child labour and improve awareness among the working classes on HIV and AIDS.
Referring to the Pay Revision Commission, he said that the party would launch an agitation in favour of Government employees on the issue.
Liberalisation
Mr. Naidu said that in the present scenario of liberalisation, it was the responsibility of Governments to safeguard the interests of the poor and the working class.
Among those who addressed the gathering were the Mayor, Teegala Krishna Reddy, who is also the president, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, M. Jagannadham, MP, M.L. Kantha Reddy of workers' union in Ashok Leyland, the party vice-president and MLA, Ch. Rajeswara Rao, the TNTUC president, R. Ramamohana Rao, the TNTUC general secretary, C. Satish Kumar, and others.
