PATNA: Shedding his predilection for the President's Rule, Lok Jan Shakti Party chief and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has now taken upon himself the responsibility of putting a popular government in Bihar. In the third exercise of its kind in less than two months, Mr. Paswan is confident of coming up with a blueprint for government formation in less than a week. He has set up a seven-member committee under the former MP, Ranjan Prasad Yadav, to hold talks with like-minded parties and recommend the formula for cobbling up a government in the State, currently under the Central rule following the deadlocked verdict in the elections. Mr. Paswan came up with the idea of putting forward a prescription within one week after a marathon meeting with his legislators who were divided in their opinion on supporting the National Democratic Alliance and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Of the 29 legislators, only the four in jail, were not present at the meeting Mr. Paswan said all the legislators stood behind him and there was a sinister design in spreading rumours that the party was divided with some supporting the formation of an NDA-led government while others favoured a government under the RJD. While Mr. Paswan turned down the request of his legislators to head the government, the meeting discussed no names for the top job.
