Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Nehru Nagar area at Chitlapakkam and Sembakkam and T.V. Pet area on May 3 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Labour Day

The Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies, in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation, New Delhi, celebrated the International Labour Organisation World Labour Day for promoting safety and health at work.

Forty participants from managements, hazardous industries, trade union representatives and officials of the Inspectorate of Factories participated. K.A. Mohammed Aziz, Chief Inspector of Factories; M.B. Pranesh, Principal Secretary, Labour and Employment Department; M. Saikumar, Commissioner of Labour; Rals Stein Berg, Advisor of the Environmental Health Engineering Department, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute and P. Jeyasingan, Director, Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies, participated.

School head

The new Head of American International School is Barry Clough and not as mentioned in the report on April 30.

126 students graduated

Altogether, 126 students from Great Lakes Institute of Management graduated on April 27. Jamshyed N. Godrej, chairman GLIM Board and Dennis Conners, Chief Operating Officer 3Com Inc., U.S. presented the graduation diplomas. V. Bala Balachandran, Honorary Dean. presided.

The 2005 batch is the second and will have more than 35 per cent women students.

Music camp

Rao's Music Circle will conduct, `Instrumental Music Camp,' for children in the 4-14 age group will be held from May 2 to 14 at West Mambalam, Kodambakkam and Vadapalani Centres. Keyboard (Carnatic and Western), Tabla, Veena and Drums will be taught at the camp. West Mambalam - 2480 6954, Kodambakkam - 98401 97914, Vadapalani - 98410 74115.

ECG camp

Centre for the Welfare of the Aged (CEWA) and Reeds Medicare Lab jointly organised a free ECG camp for senior citizens at Triplicane. 75 persons were screened for various ailments. The follow-up services will be given to those who are identified with heart ailments.

Sports meet

A sports meet for the Metropolitan Transport Corporation and State Express Transport Corporation employees and their families on the occasion of May Day was held at the MTC's central depot grounds.

C.T. Meyyappan, managing director, presided and A.P. Ellappan, managing director, SETC, distributed prizes. Trade union leaders of MTC and SETC and of employees and their families participated.

The general manger (administration), M. Chandrasekaran, and the general manager, SETC, Anand, addressed the gathering.
