BANGALORE: Several cases of robbery were reported in the city on Saturday. Three persons, riding a motorcycle, snatched a bag from Paramjit Kaur, wife of an Indian Air Force officer, J.S. Dhamoon, near Mayo Hall in Ashoknagar police station limits on Saturday night. The bag contained Rs. 5,000 in cash, a debit card, driving licence and the identity card of Dhamoon. The police said the crime was committed when Kaur, her husband, and their daughter, were returning from shopping. In another case, three persons riding a motorcycle robbed two call centre employees in Victoria Layout in Viveknagar police station limits. The police said Doritha D'Souza and her colleague, Roopa Radhakrishna, working in a call centre on Airport Road, were riding a scooter. The motorcycle-borne criminals blocked them near Bharath Cooperative Society and unsuccessfully tried to snatch the purse from Roopa, who was riding pillion. On second attempt, the assailants snatched the purse, which had Rs. 200 in cash and two mobile phones, the police said. Ms. D'Souza lost control over the vehicle and fell down. The two were admitted to a private hospital.
Tourists robbed
An autorickshaw driver threatened two tourists and robbed them of a gold chain estimated to be Rs. 10,000 in Shivajinagar police station limits. The police said Kumar and Subramanya had come from Haveri and were staying in a hotel near Kempe Gowda Bus Stand. On Saturday evening, they hired an autorickshaw and asked the driver to take them to a place where they could buy clothes. The driver, the police said, took them to Shivajinagar. Stopping the vehicle on the main road, the driver threatened Subramanya and snatched his gold chain. Kumar jumped out of the vehicle and tried to stop the driver. But the driver hit Kumar and escaped.
Boy drowned
A 14-year-old boy drowned in a tank in Raghavendra Colony in Ganagammanagudi police station limits on Sunday morning.The police said the victim and his brother went for a swim in Shettyhalli tank on Abbigere Road around 11 a.m. The body was recovered around 2 p.m. Prakash Kariyappa, a native of Madikeri, who saw the victim drown, tried to rescue him. "I removed my shirt and jumped into the tank. I could not catch him as he sank and got caught in the slush," he said. He then called the police, who recovered the body with the help of some people. According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Yeshwanthpur), M.B. Appanna, three students drowned in the same place in April.
Infant abandoned
A just-born infant was found abandoned in Bowring Hospital on Sunday morning. The police said a woman, calling herself as "Asma," got admitted in the hospital on Saturday. On Sunday, she was delivered of a boy. A nurse found the baby abandoned a few hours later. The hospital register, the police said, showed the woman as a resident of VMT Layout in Kadugondanahalli police station limits.
Man bites another
A man, who quarrelled with his friend, bit the latter's ear in Sampangiramanagar police station limits on Saturday night. The police said Satish (20) and Puttaswamy (26) went to a bar. The two, in an inebriated condition, quarrelled and Satish bit the right ear of Puttaswamy, who is now admitted to a private hospital.
