MUMBAI: IHF Juniors XI edged out local team Central Railway 2-1 to enter the semifinals of the 43rd all India Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament here on Monday. The IHF side, possessing six junior internationals, took the lead in the third minute, off its first penalty corner when Hamza Mujtaba pushed in the shot taken by forward Bruno Lugno. Central equalised seven minutes later off a rasping penalty corner drive by full back Nilesh Mane. IHF scored its match winner in the ninth minute of the second half through a spectacular zero angle goal scored with a reverse flick by half back Ramesh Kumar. The IHF team, for whom junior international goalkeeper Kamaldeep Singh was in great form and kept the central forward at bay till the end. Central earned 11 penalty corners as compared to its rival's six. IHF Juniors XI will now take on holder Punjab and Sind Bank in the double leg semi-finals scheduled to be held tomorrow and on May 5. Pakistan's Punjab XI from Lahore is scheduled to play its opening match in the tournament under lights against UP XI later this evening in another quarterfinal match. . PTI
