Letters to the Editor
This refers to the recent visit to India of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan. One can notice a clear change in Tokyo's attitude towards New Delhi that had hardened after India's nuclear tests at Pokhran in 1998.
Asha Krishnamurthy,
There is a vast scope for the expansion of Indo-Japanese economic relations. Mr. Koizumi's visit indicates that Tokyo wants to make up for lost opportunities.
Vinay Angadi,
Mr. Koizumi's visit to India shows that the relations between the two countries have begun moving forward. They have realised that together they can play a key role in promoting prosperity and stability in Asia.
India has a major infrastructure problem that can be tackled to a great extent with Japanese cooperation. The agreement with Tokyo to build a Delhi-Mumbai and a Delhi-Howrah rail corridor can be a step in this direction.
K. Ambuja Ramesh,
It will not do for India to pursue the utopian line of a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council with veto power. As already pointed out, the veto is a negative power used to stall critical issues and settle political scores. Instead, India and Japan will do well to improve bilateral trade.
Yugal Joshi,
