This Day That Age
Naresh, a 2-year-old chimpanzee, was one of the visitors to the first All-India Zoo Superintendents' Conference held in Madras on May 2. An inmate of the Madras Zoo, Naresh was given a prominent place in the front row. When photographers tried to take a snap, it became camera-shy and was found bashful. Mr. B.V. Ramanujam, Superintendent of Madras Zoo, came to the rescue of the cameramen and, at his behest, the chimpanzee posed for a photo. When introduced to the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Bhaktavatsalam, Naresh shook hands. He was then led to a back bench where he stayed comfortably `watching' the proceedings.
