TUTICORIN: : Burglars broke open a house situated near Tuticorin port and decamped with 120 sovereigns of jewellery here on Tuesday. The police said the incident was said to have occurred while the occupant of the house, Vijayalakshmi (45), was away in the morning. The police are investigating.
39 held for gambling
As many as 39 persons were arrested for gambling at different parts of the district in raids conducted on Saturday and Sunday. The police said 14 were nabbed from here, five each from Arumuganeri and Pudur, seven from Tiruchendur area and eight at Pudhiyamuthur. All the accused were remanded under TN Gambling Act. Head-constable hurt
Sakthivel, a head-constable of Tuticorin South police station, suffered injuries when the motorbike he was riding collided with a bus near Eral on Monday. He was admitted to a private hospital here, the police sources said.
