SBT reports higher operating profit

Maintains dividend at 75 p.c.

CHENNAI: State Bank of Travancore has reported an operating profit of Rs. 802 crores, an increase of Rs. 101.22 crores over the previous year (14.4 per cent). The achievement of higher profitability was mainly on account of 31.15 per cent increase in net interest income, says a bank release. The net profit stood at Rs. 247.13 crores against Rs. 244.60 crores.

The bank has maintained the equity dividend at 75 per cent. The capital adequacy ratio stood at 11.05 per cent at the end of March 31, 2005.

Total deposits grew by an impressive 22.37 per cent to touch the level of Rs. 24,133.01 crores.

Total advances registered a growth of 33.38 per cent at Rs. 14,848.33 crores. The share of retail lending in total advances stood at 50.55 per cent against 48.89 per cent. The credit-deposit ratio has increased to 62.88 per cent from 60.34 per cent. The lending to the priority sector accounted for 43.13 per cent of the net bank.

The gross non-performing assets (NPA) were brought down to 4.28 per cent from 5.69 per cent. The net NPA stood at 1.81 per cent.
