DHARWAD: The KCC Bank Hitarakshana Samiti has said that if the promises on releasing funds for rejuvenating the bank are not fulfilled, it will not allow Ministers and MLAs to participate in functions in Dharwad. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, A.B. Desai, former MLA and President of the Samiti, regretted that because of the apathy of the Ministers and the MLAs concerned steps to revive the bank had become a mirage. It was in Kanaginahal of Gadag taluk that the cooperative movement took birth a century ago. But it is in its own birthplace that the movement is dying slowly, he regretted. The Government has been making promises but never tried put them into practice. The Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and the district-in-charge Minister have been giving statements. But as nothing has been done so far, we have been forced to launch an agitation, Mr. Desai said. He said the Samiti would stage dharna for three days from May 6 to mark the centenary celebrations of the cooperation movement at Kanaginahal. V.I. Alagundagi, K.V. Hiregowdar, C.S. Patil and other office-bearers of the Samiti, were present.
