SHIMOGA: People of Santekadur village near here staged a demonstration here on Tuesday demanding that an 18-acre government land in their village should not be allotted to any private educational institution but be retained for meeting local needs. The demonstrators took out a procession from the Science Field to the Deputy Commissioner's office where they submitted a memorandum to the district administration requesting that the land be handed over to the gram panchayat so that it can be utilised for public purposes. They said a private educational institution, which had not utilised the land after it was allotted it on lease in the last 20 years, was now pressuring the Government to renew the lease on the land. They said the land should not be allotted to the educational institution.
