NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) tops the list of beneficiaries under the Union Government's scheme of `assistance to National sports federations,' having received Rs.12.41 crores in 2004-2005. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the Union Sports Minister, Sunil Dutt, stated that his ministry had released an amount of Rs.104.63 crores during the past three years as financial assistance to the National federations. Of this, Rs.41.63 crores was provided in 2004-2005. This assistance included funds for training of sportspersons, participation in international competitions, holding of National championships, organisation of international tournaments, purchase of equipment and reimbursement of salaries of assistant/joint secretaries of federations. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) heads the list of federations that have received the maximum assistance. It got Rs.2.25 crores in 2004-2005, having received Rs.2.34 crores and Rs.1.09 crores respectively for the two previous years. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) comes next with Rs.2.18 crores in 2004-2005 and Rs.1.74 crores each for the two previous years. The other major beneficiaries last year were (with rupees in crores in parenthesis): Athletics Federation of India (2.15), Indian Hockey Federation (1.94), Badminton Association of India (1.60), Yachting Association of India (1.59), All India Tennis Association (1.36), Squash Rackets Federation of India (1.19), All India Football Federation (1.19), Rowing Federation of India (1.18), Table Tennis Federation of India (1.16), All India Chess Federation (1.11) and Indian Women's Hockey Federation (1.10).
