BANGALORE: The Indian squad for the Sudirman Cup World team badminton championship, which begins in Beijing on May 10, has suffered a major setback with the National women's champion Aparna Popat pulling out of the team. Aparna, who has been in the training camp for the championship, which has been in progress here since April 5, started suffering from bouts of giddiness on the court since last week. She had a medical check up at SAI on April 30 and her condition according to SAI physician Dr. Sarala was diagnosed as `positional vertigo'. Aparna left for Mumbai on Monday, where her parents live. Aparna was the mainstay in the women's singles along with Trupti Murgunde. But, with Aparna now ruled out, the onus of taking the burden of the Indian challenge falls on Trupti Murgunde. The BAI is left with no other choice and a replacement for Aparna is not possible at this late stage as visas for the trip have already been obtained. The team: Arvind Bhat, Anup Sridhar (singles); Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar, Jaseel P. Ismail and V. Diju (doubles); Trupti Murgunde (singles), Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien (doubles). Coaches: Hadi Suigyanto and Ms. Madhumita Bisht.
