BANGALORE: The Republican Party of India (RPI) has decided to field candidates in the byelections from the Shimoga Lok Sabha and Chamarajpet Assembly constituencies, to be held on June 2. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the RPI President, Ramadas Athawale, MP, said that the party will soon finalise the candidates for the byelections and for the taluk and zilla panchayat elections in the State. A State-level conference will be held in Bangalore on May 27 to prepare a manifesto for the taluk and zilla panchayat elections, he said. The MP urged the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to pass legislation providing reservation in jobs in the private sector for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes. The party will launch a nationwide agitation this month demanding the adoption of a Bill on reservation in the private sector, he said.
