HASSAN: The Hassan district police have arrested four more persons, including the President of the Ballupet Gram Panchayat, B.C. Manjunath, in connection with the distribution of illicit liquor, which claimed 13 lives in four villages of Sakleshpur taluk recently. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the Superintendent of Police, Panduranga H. Rane, said those arrested have been charged with aiding bootleggers in the preparation and supply of illicit arrack in the Malnad region. He said the other three arrested are Satish, 25, of Sreeramanagara, Abdul Azeez, 23, of Maranahalli and B.N. Manjunath, 25, of Bydarahalli in Alur taluk. He said four more persons will be arrested shortly in connection with the incident. The accused have been booked under Sections 302, 304, 272 and 273 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 32, 34 and 38A of the Karnataka Excise Act.
