HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary, Bandaru Dattatreya, has demanded the resignation of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Ministers at the Centre in the wake of indications from the senior Congress leader, G. Venkatswamy, that a separate State is impossible. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Dattatreya charged the TRS Ministers -- K. Chandrasekhara Rao and A. Narendra -- with deceiving people of Telangana and said they had no right to continue in office. Mr. Venkatswamy's statement exposed the "hollow claims'' of TRS leaders, he said. He blamed the Congress and the TRS for taking people of Telangana for a ride. The TRS leaders had become a laughing stock among people because of their inconsistent and contradictory statements. He questioned the timing of Mr. Venkatswamy's statement that he should have clearly said the same before the last Assembly elections.
Party for smaller States
Mr. Dattatreya asserted that separate Telangana would be a reality only with the support of the BJP. The BJP stood for creation of a separate State, he added. Though there was demand for creation of new States such as Kamtipur, Gorkhaland, Vindhyanchal, Bodoland, Vidarbha and Harithpradesh the TRS wanted the UPA to decide on the fate of Telangana without referring it to the Second Reorganisation Commission (SRC), he pointed out.
