NELLOREKURNOOL: Heavy rain accompanied by gales lashed Nellore town for nearly two hours on Tuesday afternoon, throwing civic life out of gear. Five cm of rain was recorded till 4 p.m. The sudden rain resulted in inundation of several low-lying areas apart from the busy Trunk Road, Brindavanam and other places. Added to it was the customary power cut all over the town. Meanwhile, one person died and three others were seriously injured due to rain and gales which hit Nellore and surrounding areas on Sunday night. Short circuit resulted in several TV sets and household implements getting damaged in Manubolu mandal. In Chittamuru mandal, heavy damage has been reported in banana and mango plantations. The rain did not spare even dish antennas. NELLOREKURNOOL: Rain across the district on Monday night and Tuesday spurred the farming community into action. Farmers started land preparation operations though they may not go for sowing immediately. It was also beneficial for the Mungari cotton and sunflower crops. According to reports,rainfall recorded at different stations are: Kurnool - 25.4 mm, Kallur - 58 mm, Orvakal - 30.4 mm, Gudur - 25.2 mm, Bethamcharla - 14.8 mm, Krishnagiri - 10.2 mm, Midtur - 13.4 mm, Srisailam - 37 mm, Nandyal - 14.4 mm, Bandi Atmakur - 17 mm, Sirivel - 29 mm, Gospadu - 14.6 mm and Mantralayam - 10.4 mm. Cuddapah: Heavy rain lashed Cuddapah town and nearby areas for about an hour-and-a-half leading to inundation of roads and disruption of power supply for two hours.
