CHAMARAJANAGAR: The president of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha and Chamarajanagar MLA, Vatal Nagaraj, has criticised the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Panchayat Raj, Mani Shankar Aiyar, for his remarks that Karnataka failed to release water to Tamil Nadu when the latter needed it the most. Addressing presspersons at the Suvarnavathy Reservoir Inspection Bunglow on Monday, Mr. Nagaraj criticised the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and the Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, H.C. Mahadevappa, for remaining silent on the issue and not justifying the State's stance in this regard. He said the injustice has been meted out to the State since the formation of the Cauvery Tribunal. He condemned the Union Government for showing a step-motherly attitude towards Karnataka. He said a convention of all party leaders, writers, artists and intellectuals will be organised to determine the future course of action against the Andhra Pradesh Government's illegal irrigation projects. He urged the Rajya Sabha member, Venkaiah Naidu, to tender his resignation for not supporting the State even though he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. He warned that an agitation will be launched if Mr. Naidu fails to resign. Mr. Nagaraj also urged the State Government to increase the height of the Alamatti Dam to utilise the Krishna water allotted to the State.
