Take over Halcyon Castle: CPI(M)

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M) State committee has urged the Government to issue an Ordinance to take over the Halcyon Castle and the adjoining property.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the CPI(M) committee pointed out that the Halcyon Castle and the property adjoining it were bought by a private hotel group for a paltry sum along with the Ashok Beach Resort. The Government should immediately ask the Centre to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the hotel sale and take steps to keep the hotel in the public sector, the statement added. - Special Correspondent

Transport of cattle restricted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The restrictions on the transport of cattle from neighbouring States to Kerala are being tightened at check posts as part of the Goraksha Mission meant to check cattle diseases, including foot disease. An official press note said here that the cattle would be subjected to check up as part of the programme. A certificate from a qualified veterinary doctor stating that the cattle have been vaccinated against foot disease at least 21 days ago should be produced at the check posts. Ear tags would be given to all the cattle cleared at the check posts. An administrative charge of Rs.8 each for cows and buffaloes and Rs.3 each for sheep would be levied, besides the existing inspection fee of Rs.2 per head. The amount collected would be used for the control of cattle diseases. The inspection fee should be remitted in the treasury. — Special Correspondent

Train rescheduled

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nagercoil-Chennai Egmore special train (No.0612) has been rescheduled to leave Nagercoil at 4.30 p.m. instead of 3.30 p.m. on Thursdays from May 5 to June 16, according to a press release. This is to facilitate track maintenance work between Aralvaymoli and Valliyoor in the Nagercoil-Tirunelveli section. - Special Correspondent

Viswanathan hospitalised

Thiruvananthapuram: The former Forest Minister, K. P. Viswanathan, was admitted to the Medical College Hospital following diabetes and associated complications on Tuesday. His general condition was fine, hospital authorities said. - Staff Reporter

Shanmughadas

to visit China

KOZHIKODE: The former Health Minister A.C. Shanmughadas will visit China from May 7 to 15 as part of a delegation of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The NCP delegation, which is led by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, R.R. Patel, is visiting China at the invitation of the Government of China. — Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: For technical reasons, 206 telephone numbers now working with the telephone exchange in Palayalam will be transferred to the exchange at Mankavu from 11 a.m. on May 4. The changed numbers can be known from telephone number 1951. — Special Correspondent

KOLLAM: The actor Murali will inaugurate the Prof. MRT Nair Samskarika Samithy at a function to be held at Karunagapally on Wednesday. The Minister for Culture, A.P. Anil Kumar, will inaugurate the commemoration. The writer M.D. Ratnamma will deliver the commemoration address. — Staff Reporter
