12(B) status for university

KOCHI: : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded 12 (B) status to the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit at Kalady. The new status will make the university eligible to receive central assistance from now.

The decision to grant the status was taken on the basis of a report presented by an expert committee appointed by the commission. The Vice-Chancellor, K.S. Radhakrishnan, said the university would be able to construct a library and hostel and set up a playground by utilising the financial assistance received from the UGC. The university had been generating internal revenue for implementing development work.
