MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat at its general meeting here on Tuesday adopted a Rs. 203.37-crore budget for 2005-06. The share of plan component in the budget is Rs. 83.24 crores and non-plan component Rs. 120.12 crores. The share of zilla panchayat in the non-plan component is Rs. 44.51 crores and that of the five taluk panchayats Rs. 75.61 crores. Likewise, the State's share in the plan component is Rs. 56.15 crores and that of the Union Government Rs. 27.09 crores. Of the State's share, the zilla panchayat gets Rs. 23.93 crores, taluk panchayats Rs. 13.62 crores and gram panchayats Rs. 18.60 crores. The zilla panchayat gets Rs. 7.41 crores in the share of the Union Government, taluk panchayats Rs. 10.87 crores and gram panchayats Rs. 8.79 crores. The share of zilla panchayat in the plan component is Rs. 31.34 crores, taluk panchayat Rs. 24.49 crores and gram panchayat Rs. 27.39 crores. The combined share of the zilla panchayat in the plan and non-plan component is Rs. 75.86 crores, while that of the taluk panchayats is Rs. 100.11 crores. Gram panchayats do not have any allocation under non-plan component. Primary and secondary education under general education receives Rs. 20.34 crores, while allocation for medical and public health services and rural health sector is Rs. 1.69 crores. An allocation of Rs. 5.21 crores has been made for family welfare projects. A provision of Rs. 1.46 crores has been made for rural water supply, Rs. 1.63 crores for welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Special component projects will get Rs. 1.23 crores and welfare of backward classes Rs. 89.64 lakhs. Women and child welfare projects get Rs. 7.65 crores. Shares of some of the other important departments/schemes are as follows: nutritious food Rs. 2.6 crores, agriculture Rs. 1.27 crores, horticulture Rs. 60.48 lakhs, animal husbandry Rs. 65.62 lakhs, fisheries Rs. 11.56 lakhs, forestry, including soil conservation, Rs. 66.06 lakhs, cooperation Rs. 27.41 lakhs, regional and other rural development works Rs. 5.11 crores.
