HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation has sought a white paper on the District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in view of crores of expenditure not yielding the desired result. N. Ramana Sastri, associate president, and N. Narayana, general secretary, at a press conference on Tuesday, suggested constitution of a State-level committee, with the inclusion of people's representatives/organisations, to undertake a review of the programmes at least once a year. They urged the Government to remove officials of other departments from DPEP and SSA posts and replace them with School Education personnel. They called for a review of the set-up of mandal resource persons and posting of only qualified teachers.
Counselling
The federation leaders cautioned the Government against meddling with the counselling process on transfers. Teachers were prepared for any struggle to ensure that the process was continued. If any changes were made, there would be a threat to the very survival of the Government, they warned, recalling the loss of posts of three ZPP chairmen, who allegedly committed irregularities. "The Government would meet the same fate as that of the Telugu Desam," the leaders said.
