Former MLA hospitalised

THIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIR: The former CPI(M) district secretary and MLA, M.Satyanesan, was admitted to Medical College Hospital at 12.30 a.m. on Wednesday following chest pain. Hospital sources said that he had been admitted to the medical intensive care unit and his condition was stable.

Human rights panel visits police station

THIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIR: The State Human Rights Commission member, Lakshmikutty Amma, on Tuesday inspected the Fort police station.

An official attached to the commission said two persons were found illegally confined in the lock-up. There was no mention of their arrest in any of the police station records.

The accused had been brought for questioning in connection with a driving licence forgery racket, he said. They were taken into custody on Tuesday morning. — Staff Reporter

Demand for railway line

THIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIRUVANANTHAPURAMTHIR: The Gandheeya Navasakthi Sangham, a city-based NGO, has urged the MPs from the State to put pressure on the Railway Minister for the long-pending railway extension line from Thiruvananthapuram to Chengannur via Kilimanoor and Kottarakkara. In a statement here, its president, Mar George Theckedath, said this trunk-line would run parallel to the Main Central Road, thus helping to ease the traffic congestion on that road. — Special Correspondent
